Coach  Akana  has  been actively involved in the local Bellevue football scene for the last 15 years.  He  has coached  between  Interlake  H.S  (1999 - 2000 &  2015), Sammamish H.S (2003 - 2010  &  2016 - Present), and  the  Bellevue  Bears  youth  football program (2011-2014).  Coach Akana has always been a true Sammamish Totem,as all of his children have graduated,  or  are presently attending Sammamish high school.  He coached his two oldest sons, Casey and  Cameron,  played  football  and  wrestled for the Totems from 2003-2009. Oldest  son  Casey  (Class  of 2007)  &  Cameron (Class of 2009) both received All-King Cohonors  in  football  and  wrestling.  Daughter  Morgan  (Class of 2011)  lettered in Womens Gymnastics,  and  daughter  Mary (Class of 2017) played a year of volleyball.  Youngest son Coby  (Class of 2019)  will  enter  his  senior  season with  the  Totems football program this coming  2018 season.  Coach Akana looks forward to building and developing Sammamish football, to be a top contending program in King Co 3A. 

Coach  Akana  played  a  brief collegiate  football  career, as a walk-on linebacker / fullback,at Brigham Young University-Provo (1983-1984).  Northern Arizona University  (1985-1986)  and   Coach  Akana  is  a  transplant  from  the island  of  Molokai  in  Hawaii,  and  he has been  a  resident  of  the  Pacific Northwest  for the last 25 years.  Coach Akana is 30 years married  to  his  college  sweetheart,  Paree (Barnard) Akana.  They have 5 children. Coach Akana  is  a real estate professional, and owner of the Homebuyers Guild in Bellevue.  He is also the  owner  of Akana Athletics, LLC, a sports training and development cooperative for aspiring athletes.
